Climate & Environment
The United States, with its large size and geographic variety, includes the climate ranges from humid continental in the north to humid subtropical in the south. The southern tip of Florida is tropical, as is Hawaii. The Great Plains west of the 100th meridian are semi-arid. Much of the Western mountain are alpine. The climate is arid in the Great Basin, desert in the Southwest, Mediterranean in coastal California, and oceanic in coastal Oregon and Washington and southern Alaska.
Economy
The United States is a highly developed country with a liberal-capitalist market economy which is fueled by abundant natural resources, a well-developed infrastructure, and high productivity. and has the world’s largest nominal GDP and net wealth. It has the second-largest by purchasing power parity (PPP) behind China. It had the world’s eighth-highest per capita GDP (nominal) and the ninth-highest per capita GDP (PPP) in 2022. The United States has the most technologically powerful and innovative economy in the world.
With a total natural resource value of 45 trillion U.S. dollars, the U.S. is the second leading country worldwide based on natural resource value after Russia. Among the main contributors to the United States’ natural resource value are coal, natural gas and gold. Nowadays, U.S. timber is mostly used for the production of pulp and paper, as well as furniture. The U.S. also has the largest proven coal reserves worldwide as of 2019.
The economy is postindustrial, with the service sector contributing 67.8% of GDP, though the United States remains an industrial power. The leading business held by gross business receipts is wholesale and retail trade; by net income it is manufacturing. Chemical products are the leading manufacturing held. It is the world’s number one producer of electrical and nuclear energy, as well as liquid natural gas, sulphur, phosphate, and salt. While agriculture accounts for just under 1% GDP, the United State is the world’s top producer of corn and soybeans. Coca-Cola and McDonald’s are the two most recognized brands in the world.
