The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK) or Britain is a sovereign country in Europe, o the north-western coast of the continental mainland. The United Kingdom, separated from the European continent by the North Sea and English Channel, consist of four countries that include England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK’s form of government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system and its capital city is London. The United Kingdom has fourteen British Overseas Territories. These are remnants of the British Empire which, at its height in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, encompassed almost a quarter of the world’s land surface and was the largest empire in history. Brexit ( “British exit”) was the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020. The UK is the only sovereign country to have left the EU.

Climate & Environment

ritain is an island country. The surrounding sea gives England a varied climate. It can never be known what the weather will be like from one day to the other. It can be sunny one day and rainy the next. In general summer are warm and the winters are cold. July and August are normally the warmest month in England. Around the coast, February is normally the coldest month but inland there is little to choose between January and February as the coldest month.

Economy

Today the UK is considered as the 6th largest country with economy worldwide and the 3rd largest in Europe after Germany and France. The economy of the United Kingdom is a highly developed social market and market-orientated economy.

The service sector dominates, contributing 81% of GDP, the nancial services industry is particularly important insurance and banking. And London is the second-largest nancial center in the world. In 2020, the UK was the fifth largest exporter and the fifth-largest importer. It also had the third-largest inward foreign direct investment,and the fth-largest outward foreign direct investment. In 2020, the UK’s trade with the 27 member states of the European Union accounted for 49% of the country’s exports and 52% of its imports.

London is a major center for international business and commerce and is the leader of the three “command centers” for the global economy along with New York City and Tokyo. It has the largest concentration of foreign bank branches in the world, such as HSBC (the world’s largest bank), Barclay’s Bank and Citigroup. Many multinational companies that are not primarily UK-based have chosen to site their European or rest-of-world headquarters in London: an example is the US nancial services rm Citygroup. The Scottish capital, Edinburgh, has one of the large nancial centers of Europe and is the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, one of the world’s largest banks.

Tourism is one of the important aspect to the British economy. The United Kingdom is the world’s 10th biggest tourist destination, with over 37 million visiting in 2018. The Lonely Planet travel guide voted England number 2, after Bhutan, as one of the best countries to visit in 2020. Some of the most popular cities include London, Edinburgh and Manchester and notable attractions include the Palace of Westminster, the London Eye and Edinburgh Castle.
